Tomorrow Henry is going…
January 14
Tomorrow Henry is going to be five years old so Nancy and I decided to take him for an outing.
We drove to the tourist hub at Fisherman’s Wharf, ate a nice lunch here…
Around the Golden State. Sequoia, Up The Coast, SF, Napa, and More.

Tomorrow Henry is going to be five years old so Nancy and I decided to take him for an outing.
We drove to the tourist hub at Fisherman’s Wharf, ate a nice lunch here…
Henry had a fabulous time. He was totally entranced. He loved watching the wake the best, and I got him a visit to the bridge which is always special.

We enjoyed breakfast with Roger and Sandy and man-o-man it’s been Cold.
…and speaking of which, Nancy’s vintage fur hat was still in her suitcase, her suitcase that disappeared somewhere between drop-off at the baby Santa Barbara airport and arrival in San Francisco.
The airline did deliver the suitcase 24 hours later minus Nancy’s iPad and minus a few other random items. It was an awful experience and continues on even now with reports needing to be filed etc.
And for one brief moment unlikely to be repeated I have more clothes than Nancy.
So cold that when we got to Josh and Kelly’s place I had to check out Kelly’s vintage fur hat…
kd.
A friend of J&K brought over a fruit tart that we instantly devoured. Here’s Kelly getting the shot.
Kelly, Charlie, Milton, Nancy, Josh, Henry
And here’s Charlie and Henry with Josh and Nancy. Kelly and Milton had a chore to do and they were to meet us later on the trail.

I spent the night in San Ramon so that I could see James and his family in the morning. James is the son of Phyllis and Phyllis is my father’s daughter from his first marriage. From this you can rightly suppose that James and Riki (the family that I visited yesterday) are siblings.
James, Jake, Justin, Carolynne…
The inset is a picture of the family that I took a picture of because I liked it so well and it’s set into a picture I just clicked out the window while crossing the San Mateo bridge across the bay heading to the airport to pick up Nancy.
January 11, 2013
There are many years of trips here – starting out now for a 2013 forray. As I rolled through the I5 Grapevine pass was just opened from a night of snowfall.
I went to San Ramon for my first night to enjoy a lively dinner out with RikiTik and her delightful family.
This is Riki’s family. Riki is the daughter of Phyllis and Phyllis is my father’s daughter from his first marriage.
From the top left: Amy, me, Erika. Bradley, Chanterelle (Nick’s girlfriend), Nicolas, Mike. Jeremie is missing, Amy’s new husband and Riki and Mike’s freshly minted young son-in-law.

On our last morning we had the usual breakfast bounty followed by a yoga class then packing up, then lunch and a fond bon voyage.

Good morning everyone here at the Rever-Ginsburg Farmhouse where Life Is Good.
Henry! As you scroll through these visits to The Ranch you’ll see him grow from a baby chick in Barbara’s hand in 2009 to this splendid peacock today.
…for tonight’s yet again another feast. I have not recently tried on the outfit that I got for the wedding since it >just< fit when I bought it and now after three days of FEASTING... Bummer, no picture of the evening's entertainment.
We took a totally spectacular hike. I’ve driven through Pinnacles before and for a small walk by one of the campsites but never this.
Check out the climbers. This was a wonderful walk.
Oh my goodness. There are a couple of cave sites, the larger being closed because of bats and the smaller not in the direction we were walking.
Then the tornado that surrounds dinner.
From the front: chicken and duck from Chinatown in San Francisco, all the delicious succulent salmon you can eat, boiled potatoes in the skin, layered stirfry with baby bok choy on top, broiled tomatoes with Parmesan and herbs, shredded vegetable salad, behind the potatoes are ravioli, then a chopped vegetable salad and a green salad.
Then our program and then dessert. Good thing I took that two hour nap!
The program as directed by Lewis: everyone was to choose a song from times past and perform their selection, no singing required.
Our hosts Barbara and Jerry doing their rendition of I Told the Witch Doctor. which was a particularly fun choice since they are both doctors.

The 10 of the now 25 visitors at The Ranch who decided to make an outing to Pinnacles National Monument.
May 25-28, 2012
I drove with Ben and Bonnie today up to The Ranch. They decided to take the 5 and save the extra hour from taking the 101. The 101 drive is usually gorgeous and the 5 is usually a stinky blinding dust storm … but not today! Today the drive up the 5 was beautiful.
We ate lunch at Harris Ranch and from there went west to make our way to the Hollister area, the town nearest The Ranch.
…and olive groves.
They grow the olives commercially and produce organic extra virgin olive oil as well as other products under the brand name Oils of Paicines.
The crowd of about 18 gathered (many more coming tomorrow), and the womenfolk got down to the preparation of dinner. Bonnie led a Shabbat service, and eating and visiting and opinionating went on into the night.

Enjoying a stroll in the delightful Santa Barbara Botanic Garden with Nancy and Michi.
February 10
I’m making a new chapter for all these Santa Barbara pictures but here are the highlights.
Nancy and Michi on our walk in the Botanic Garden. What a gorgeous day.
Another view. I failed to catch any pictures of the many extremely colorful and entertaining residents and guests.
…to spend the night at a way hip and cool guest house in the foothills of the Santa Ynez valley.
There’s another dog just like this one, also the color of the road only 10 years younger, both so friendly and lovable.
In the morning the dogs wandered through the house with thick, caked mud on their ‘legs’ up to their ‘knees’, shedding, licking, and passing gas, the state of so many dogs of my acquaintance.
I took a buzz into Los Olivos for a look-around. I would not have recognized Los Olivos as it is now many streets wide and deep of small quaint-designer buildings all occupied by wine tasting establishments.
It’s nice in here with an especially appealing bar and lounge and the restaurant gets good reviews.
Back in town now to go with Michi to the harbor to watch her ukulele group play. It was fun, and an inspiration!
Michi is always trying to get folks to say ukulele as you would in Hawaiian…oo-(as in moose)-coo-leh-leh. She’s about as successful as I am pronouncing karaoke as you would in Japanese…kah-rah-oh-ke. It’s just not going to take with the folks. How karaoke turned into care-ree-oh-key looks to me like a nice topic for a term paper.
…Ojai.
I arrived around sunset and headed right up to Meditation Mount. What they say: “Our Mission is to promote the building of an enlightened and compassionate world through the power of creative meditation, inspirational educational programs, and community-based events focused on the practical application of the following universal spiritual principles.”
It’s a wonderful setting and speaks to the whole sense of Ojai and perhaps what it is Beatrice Wood found so inspiring.
Los Olivos, yikes, it’s turned into a ‘town’ of a thousand wine tasting establishments.
…at a very cool guest house in the foothills of the Santa Ynez Valley where I failed to catch any pictures of the many extremely colorful and extremely entertaining residents and guests.
Santa Ynez is predominately a wine making area (think Sideways). It got so cold and so windy that by sunset I was already snug in my room at the guest house and didn’t emerge until morning.
