At the beginning of June I experienced the sudden onset of stabbing lower back pain (that ice pick in my kidney?) such that in the morning I had to put myself into a ball and roll off the bed. I was of course not happy about this turn, so I reached out to the oncologist who got me a CT scan right away. Not Cancer. YAY! But what was it? The oncologist sent me to my primary care who ordered an MRI and referred me to a neurosurgeon.
As the weeks went by I felt better and better. Now it’s the end of July, and I’ve seen the neurosurgeon, who was lovely, who reviewed all the imaging and said the pain was most likely muscular and I should keep ibuprofen with me, and a topical pain reliever. “Did you do anything differently?” he asked. Wellll, I had decided to be more faithful with my physical therapy, and yes, this did come on after doing the exercises every day for a while.
He wrote up some directions for physical therapy, don’t twist, don’t stress, etc. and I’m still gaining a pound every month and my only other complaint being fatigue.
