The River Near Atwater Village

Marsha and I took a nice stroll along the banks of the LA River near Atwater Village. It’s a nice section with the river bed broken up for the plants to grow back, sheltering birds and wildlife of various sorts. There are sections of the river even more grown in, and sections that are still a concrete channel.

This is a good link for a map showing all the access points to the walks along the river with descriptions of many walks and other interesting information.

Below is the Water with Rocks Gate at the northwest corner of Fletcher Drive and the LA River.

We walked up one side on a path bordering the residential area, crossed over on a bike bridge, and walked back on the bike path.

I grabbed this shot of The Great Heron Gate from across the street, not such a flattering angle – entrance to Rattlesnake Park.

And then we had a lovely lunch at Tam O’Shanter, an LA favorite for more than 100 years, ancient by LA standards.
