In the center of the park is the monument to riobambeño, Pedro Vicente Maldonado, the most outstanding Hispanic scientists in the colony. He collaborated with members of the French Geodesic Mission (to identify the equator). Besides his political, physical and mathematical activities, he was an astronomer, surveyor, and geographer.”
