Then I took Windy to get her hair done while the rest of the gang played in the pool, walked to the beach, took naps, and got dressed up…
And Kelly. Kelly? I’m sitting at the other end of the row of chairs and I hear ‘Darryl’s mother, raise your hand!’ so I do of course, and meet Kelly, one of Darryl’s colleagues from work.
Kelly and Angela looked familiar to each other and sure enough. How fun! Kelly offered warm congratulations to the Bride and Groom.

Windy and Jeff’s Wedding Weekend…SATURDAY
First order of the morning – Mani! Pedi! ok girls…
Cynthia, Betsy, Angela, Beth, Christa, Windy, Charis, Rome, Anya, Cali
…Let’s Go!
We three sisters have in total five children and those five children have nine children and they were All Here(!), all five children and their families coming from five different states: Trevor-Hawaii; Darryl-California; Lucas-Washington; Cynthia-Minnesota; Travis-Texas. No wonder they don’t get together so often.
Christa and Caleb led the kids in many rousing games including Simon Says, Red Light Green Light, and the adults joined in for the crazy fun Ninja Tag.
The plan was to have our lunchtime picnic at the beach but due to the inclement weather we had our picnic in the Rec Room.
Windy, Jeff
What follows are the details of our five course Progressive Dinner.
The five first cousin-families each had their own two bedroom apartment at the Oakwood. We distributed food and decorations and we progressed for our dinner. At each stop the children provided entertainment on the theme of Love and Marriage.
First course, Canapés in the Aloha Room hosted by Trevor, Beth, Christa, Caleb, and Charis.
Christa, Caleb, Charis
Second course, Salad Bar in the Purple Room hosted by Darryl, Angela, Rome, and Lilly.
Third course, the Mac ‘n Cheese course (because what progressive dinner is complete without a Mac ‘n Cheese course?) in the Red and Silver Room hosted by Travis, Lainee, Cali, and Jack.
Jack and Lainee were feeling sick all day but thankfully they were both able to make it to dinner.
Lilly, Charis, Rome, Anya, Jack
Fifth course, Dessert in the Wedding White Room hosted by Lucas, Betsy, Xander, and Anya.

Windy and Jeff’s Wedding Weekend…FRIDAY
Mike took this picture on our settling in at the Oakwood Apartments for the weekend extravaganza that will be Windy and Jeff’s wedding.

Everyone came in at various times throughout the evening. How about a little popcorn for a fill-in late-night snack?

Here’s a cute one that Mike took upon our arrival at the Oakwoods…me, Cynthia, and the girls Rome and Lilly peering out the window onto the patio of one of the five luxurious two bedroom apartment L&H rented for the party.

As the lead-up to my little sister’s wedding I took her for the ritual cleansing at the Korean Spa where they first scrub you down with varying degrees of sandpaper before you get your goopy and delicious massage.
From now forward it’s all wedding all the time and I probably won’t get to putting pictures in until next week.
November 8
Enjoying our lunch…notice, demonstrates Lilly, we have our vegi hot dog circles and our delicious chunks of fresh pineapple.
Then I got to do the funnest activity ever, taking the girls for a walk around the block. Rome and I used to go for a walk around the block almost every week and this was the first week we took Lilly along.
It was SO much fun, talking about our favorite places, naming the flowers, hopping on the garden paths, visiting with the passers-by, stopping off at Daniella’s. FUN!
November 4
All week I had to call in for jury duty. Ok no Monday ok no Tuesday ok no Wednesday ok no Thursday…bummer YES Friday. So I went in and then realized after the big ‘you must be available for 5-7 days’ if you get called to a jury that I had better not risk missing any of the festivities around Windy’s wedding…so I had to ask for a postponement, which was granted, and now I have to do the whole thing over again in March.
Down at the courthouse it was the first day of the Conrad Murray deliberations and quite the scene it was.
November 3
Ben and Bonnie had an extra ticket and invited me to join them at this awesomely cool event in Century City.
It was at heart a fund raiser for UC Berkeley where they extolled all things Cal (they could have an entire freshman class of perfect SAT scores but turned down a slew of them, they’ve generated the most Peace Corps volunteers of any university in America, state funds now represent 12% of their operating expenses, etc. etc.).
Then we got to enjoy a fabulous speaker, voted UC Berkeley’s best professor a record eight times, the entirely entertaining and well honored professor Alex Filippenko, presenting on the topic Dark Energy and the Runaway Universe. Wow, like getting to go to the best class without the risk of a quiz.

SB Nancy’s fam, my SF Bernal Heights sweeties are up by one now! Josh, Kelly, Charlie, Henry, and new baby Milton.

Here come a pack of too fun pictures I’ve got from others since I returned from Africa.
Marija’s new grandbaby Ben with big brother Alex who just got a haircut.
??
Congratulations Tanya! who is getting married to Rakshit in February. There are the happy parents Rupa and Anil in the middle.
??
Chris and Dave’s adorable grandboys Max and Ollie. Chris and Dave are Sharon’s relations whose company I got to enjoy in Hawaii.
cs.
More of Sharon’s relations, sweet-as-pie Amber of Amber and computer-geek-Scott, both of them so much fun to talk to, and new baby Wyatt.
??
My brother-in-law Hartley just after his attack of Bell’s Palsy. They say it’ll pass, that it’s not dangerous, that he’ll be fine. But it could take 2-3 Months for him to be back to the way he was before. Yikes.

And speaking of bikes, Lill and Tony and their traveling pals took their bikes out on the streets to enjoy CicLAvia where the city closes down a great number of streets to cars and everyone just walks and rolls around having a grand ol’ time. I hope not to miss it next time.
??
Brigitte and Knut in Antwerp on the city bikes that you can borrow, riding though a gorgeous park. They were able to rent their apartment as they were hoping and are heading to Portugal in a few days. Then the plan is they’ll settle down there, for a few months anyway!

October 30, morning
All the evenings have been full of delightful Halloween festivities which I’ll put in their own chapter.
For now, it’s a morning around town. Ahh, my dinos, lookin’ good.
And lastly the view that never fails to make me smile. You are always welcome at the Santa Monica Pier.
October 29, morning
I wanted to see the MOCA contribution to Pacific Standard Time and got Ben and Bonnie to go with me. I told them to go to the MOCA on Grand…this place.
But no…
…the exhibit was at the MOCA/Geffin on 1st. But no problem, on the weekends they run a free shuttle between the two museums, so off we went not having to re-park, thankfully.
The Geffin is a huge open space especially for giant works. The show, Under The Big Black Sun, is meant as a survey of California Art from 1974-1981, according to the catalog a disillusioned, dystopian time. I found several things to look at but B&B couldn’t find even one piece to ponder. They really didn’t like it! I’m hoping they might find the earlier years of other PST exhibits more interesting.
October 28
Ken and I had a fun time at the Promenade today checking out the restaurants. We ate in three of them.
Then we went dancing at Monsoon. We were the only ones there…it’s a late-night place and we were first in, not being such late-night people. We danced for an hour or so and it was tooo much fun.
October 27
Muriel at LACMA. We went tonight to see Accattone, an arty old black and white movie made in 1961, among the first in the ‘gritty Italian realism’ genre, written and directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. It was a two hour effort, and pretty much what you would expect from the description above.
And since we’re at LACMA, gotta go see the lamp posts.
These folks came in from Fontana to take pictures for this pretty young girl’s quinceanera.
This might be my first time to admire the lamp posts at night…this is my first picture anyway.
Octoberr 26
With Liz I went to visit Jean in the nursing home this morning and then we decided to see what’s up with geocaching.
We never actually got the whole thing to work…but it was fun to try! Next time we’ll know all about it.
On the way home I stopped off at the Farmer’s Market where Nancy joined me and we had a tasty and pleasant dinner.
Nancy tried her darnedest to help me buy an outfit for the wedding but BUT there was nothing I liked better than the outfit I’ve been wearing (ok, yes, wearing for 10 years) so I didn’t see any reason to buy anything that’s not at least as good.
October 25
A-B-C-D E-F-G H-I-J-K LMNOP…Rome and Lilly singing The Alphabet song Together. Being the second child IS different!
October 24
Oh Maxine, you GO. When Max has us over she always does everything and we just show up to all this holiday extravaganza.
BOO!
Marsha, Maryanne, Lourdes, Ann, Ljubica, Lorraine (Marsha’s out-of-town friend), Maxine, Marija, and me. (My hat fell off…boo…but my painted on eyebrows still show.)
Thanks to Shirley for taking the picture.
The Pacific Standard Time exhibit was great too – many well-known pieces in the Crosscurrents show including works from Edward Kienholtz, Ed Ruscha, David Hockney, and Judy Chicago, a couple of the Ocean Park series by Richard Diebenkorn, a crazy Tap Dancer sculpture by Stephan von Huene, etc etc.
October 23
Sharon and I took an early morning spin up to the Getty Center and the first thing I saw made me gasp out loud.
Oh Look! A new addition to the tram plaza! It’s a naked little boy in painted fiberglass holding a frog by the leg. I think he is a lovely complement to our balancing lady.
Here’s my collection of favorite photos from many…many… visits to the Getty Center.
As always, I canNot resist even once to have more pictures of the bougainvillea rebar trees.
See how quiet it is first thing in the morning, first tram up. You can catch a few peaceful moments with no people in the garden!
