Lilly in a box…
May 15
Lilly in a box taking a selfie. That’s right.
May 17
Burt came over the hill from Simi today and we had a fine multi-location outing.
First we went to Samy’s to look at cameras. My thumb joint arthritis flares up from time to time when I’ve been using my camera often and that thing is a brick, so we looked at a few of the smaller, lighter guys.
I do wish these kinds of stores would charge a consultation fee that can be applied to purchase because the fellow here stood around with us for a hour. He was great and then we left.
Then we went across the street for lunch at The Farmer’s Market at The Grove. This view of downtown from the parking garage is a must have for every stop at The Grove.
And lastly we had a swing by the Annenberg Space for Photography that Burt had never visited.
It was excellent fun. They had a Story Corps booth there inside a small, historic Airstream and Burt definitely wanted to tell a story!
May 14
Sharon and I had our Palisades Park walk today and much to my surprise all the dinos on the Promenade were behind fences announcing a Habitat Restoration Project.
Here’s the whole gang after a lively round of Flickin’ Chicken. Thanks to D&A for putting on a very fine affair of food and fun!
Here I am 70 years old and I still don’t have a photo face. Maybe next time. Somebody, Help Me, Please, I’m getting a new driving license in a month and I Need a photo face.
May 12
Remember Brigitte and Knut, she from Belgium and he from Norway? Knut and I were colleagues at Crystal and they were across-the-street neighbors of Tony from generic ‘here’ and Lill from Sweden (with whom I’ve been taking pictures for many years).
Brigitte and Knut have settled permanently in Antwerp and here they are enjoy a fabulous spring in Haspengouw, the fruit growing region of Belgium.
I include this picture now because in a few short weeks Brigitte will finally be sixty. It’s about dang time.
May 11
Les came by this morning, passing through on his way from Australia back to Boston. This picture is from one of his many presentations in Australia, changing the course of student standardized testing as he has already done in the US. You go Les!

May 10
Lona and I walked for a couple of hours. Spring had definitely sprung out there around the Ballona Wetlands and then we had to chase up a little p-break. We got so far out we couldn’t get back in time for Lona’s nail appointment so, I called for a Lyft, Lona’s first time for an app-ride. The magic worked!
Rome making some of her signature ‘up in your face’ photos. That’s her picture in the inset!
May 9
I went to the dentist today to get my teeth cleaned. I couldn’t manage to do anything else. My jaw is still sore. But I didn’t cry so that’s good.

May 8
We dropped Lilly off at her dance class and then Rome and I took a spin by the beach.
May 7
I went with Lona to her nutritionist appointment and it was so interesting. They have this machine that measures your bmi with some ‘waves’ passing through your body. You just stand there. I want to go too!
Marsha hosted Monday Night and here are four cars parked on her newly refinished driveway.
May 6
Alex and Carol are going off for a two month land journey in Europe. Bon Voyage!
We took some turns around the bay. If you look above the land you can see the sails of dozens of kite surfers.
from May Day to Cinco de Mayo
The big Cinco de Mayo party about three blocks from my house, set up in a parking lot. They closed down at eight and from what I could tell all was well.
Kathleen and I walked down and stayed for a while. We were the oldest by 30 years minimum.
Lilly’s Fashion Show at the elementary school Talent Show. She designed all those outfits and is wearing a Little Black Dress in honor of her favorite designer, Coco Chanel.

What CHRISTA in Honolulu has been posting, ’cause ‘mericns are hard pressed to know where anywhere is.
What Curtis (of Camas and Curt in Kauai) has to say: “The flow is out in an area that attracts people who would buy an acre of land for $15,000 and live in the path of an active volcano. This eruption has been going on for 35 years which is why the land is so cheap, it’s all in the path of the flow. Puna and Pahoa are not my first or even fifth choice of a place to live.”
Here’s a picture from that bar in Honolulu with the giant aquariums. That corner looked so cozy.
On the day we left Kauai the morning broke so sunny and bright and all the kayakers were smiling big smiles.
I got home and was too lazy to walk across the street to the grocery store. Amazing, I was too lazy to even get dressed let alone walk across the street.
This worked!
April 1
I went with the gang to see King Tut but before our time to go in we looked around at the other exhibits. Here’s me with lift-off wings. I wanted my hair to stand straight up but I failed.

March 30
I spent most of the day doing the yearly rent increases and tenant mailing for L&H.
Then I watched Good Morning Vietnam for the first time since it came out back in the ’80s. I was trying to imagine what it might be like to have a brain that snapped and popped and sped like the brain of Robin Williams and it was an exhausting thought.
March 29
Bonnie came by this cool foggy day and we enjoyed a walk and lunch on the pier. Look at all those people frolicking at the beach. It’s Good Friday and some schools are already on spring break so that might help explain the crowds because it certainly wasn’t a classic beach day.
I forgot to include this one in Lona’s birthday day. We with some of our play props lookin’ cute.
March 28
Happy Birthday Lona! Even though her birthday was on the 12th, this was our first chance for sister-sister-sister birthday festivities.
First we went for a walk at Zuma Canyon Trailhead where we ate trail mix and snacks aplenty and performed a Play for Three Voices which was a kick indeed.
…and then we went to Paradise Cove for lunch.
I had made an very short aside while the waitress was there that it was my sister’s birthday so could we please have some bread right away. Bread came.
Then after dinner OMG this cake came. Just imagine, and that’s what it was like.
Stuffed to our eyeballs we went for a nice walk at Paradise Cove and the beautiful coves further to the north.
March 27
Darryl was out of town on Tuesday so Angela called him for the good night routine with the girls. Rome put the phone on her robot and took this picture. (It’s the Big Bang Theory all over.)

March 26
I had lunch with Burt and Charlene and here’s a picture of (one of…) their cat who lives under the coffee table. I need a cat to live under my coffee table too!
Charlene was three weeks post-knee replacement surgery and after lunch we walked for more than a mile, maybe two miles. You go Char!
Then I had dinner with Marija. We walked from her house to the nearby Italian restaurant that was already an old stalwart when I lived in the valley. Thanks for coming out Marija!
March 25
Nice day today for a trip downtown.
The inset picture is from 1988. The building in the far right, the AT&T Center, formerly SBC Tower, Transamerica Building, and originally the Occidental Life Building that first appeared on the skyline in 1965.
It’s a really fine LA Story, and you can read about here The Loneliest Skyscraper in Los Angeles.
I was on my way to meet Marsha for good times including the LA Philharmonic at Disney Hall. It’s an experience so excellent it always makes me shiver.
March 24
Dev, Gary, and Liz hadn’t been over since I got my stove so I fixed us a late lunch on said stove and we had a lovely time.
I forgot to take a picture(!) so Liz got the gang together for a selfie. Thank you Liz!

March 23
Our first day without rain for a few days so Sharon and I went for a walk but wanting to avoid mud we decided to stay on the sidewalks.
And then we had a yummy lunch at El Cholo and I ate the leftovers for a yummy dinner.
March 22
Ken and I got the only rain-free two hours during the day on Wednesday for our tour of Paramount Studios. The idea was to get into Hollywood before the traffic and it worked out very well, and it was fun.
Then we had dinner, and then we went to see The Groundlings which was plenty entertaining too.
Nice day Ken, thanks for coming out!
March 21
I got to hang out with Rome today while Lilly was in dance class. We played the very fun game she created.
Then when we got home I played Lilly’s game with her. She quickly allowed that Rome had helped her with ideas, and it was a lot of fun too.
March 20
Maxine made her traditional treat to us all by cooking a St Patrick’s Day dinner that we entirely hoovered in a few short hours and we took home the crumbs. Everyone could come – for corned beef and cabbage and all the rest, wow, Thanks to YOU Max!
Maxine, Lourdes, Marsha, Alicia, me, Becky, Ljubica, Ann, Marija, Maryanne.
Thanks Shirley for taking the photo.
March 19
SO many pictures! You can click here though, if you’re up for SO many pictures of
Mission San Juan Capistrano.
And an hour and twenty minutes from leaving LA we arrive rested and ready to take some Pictures!
me, Ingalill
March 18
Ingalill and I took the train to San Juan Capistrano for our traditional photo-photo outing.
We arrived in plenty of time, got our ticket from a person who wrote the track number on the ticket, we went to said track number and waited with a fellow traveler while the signboard continued to flash the arrival of our train – but no train arrived.
Finally we went back to the ticket counter and found the same woman who sold us the tickets. OOOPS, she had given us the wrong track and the wrong track still thought it was the right track. Confusion all around.
In the end we had to wait an hour and a half and they comped us our fare both ways and we were satisfied to spend the time in the remarkable Union Station.
It was a perfect day for the walk up there because it was cool and bright. It’s too hot a lot of the year so I was especially happy that we got to do it today.
March 17
I went with Muriel for the walk up to Inspiration Point at Will Rogers State Park.
A crazy tree along the route. It was such a beautiful day! Then we ate pizza. A lot of delicious wild mushroom pizza. YUM!
And here’s Muriel as she greets the last dog to pass. She greeted every dog that passed as is her custom. Muriel is thinking about getting another dog. She did have a dog in LA but he passed before I had a chance meet to him.
Oh goodness, I’ve got more pictures for a week even but I’ve been distracted by my trip! More COMING since it’s 5am and I’m leaving for the airport!
February 10
Merlyn and I made a yummy dinner in my kitchen. It’s the second time we’ve done it together and what fun. He brought tuna caught by his own hand while rockin”n rollin’ out in the Pacific Ocean.
Raffi came too for a while and this is a selfie from Hilda waiting outside for Raffi’s transport back to his care home.

February 11
So many fun meals, my kitchen is Happy. That’s the tart Celina made for our dessert.
Steven, Celina, Celina’s mom visiting from El Salvador.
February 7
Ann’s friend Kat was in town and they came out to the house for a tour and some girl’s night out. Thanks for making the journey!
ad.
…we distributed 30 birthday cards (Ann’s friend Kat was there too) without even one duplicate. It is amazing every time that happens!
Ljubica, Alicia, Marija
February 8
Susie and I walked, ate, walked, and had a nice visit the whole time. Thanks for coming out!
Lona, Hartley, Trevor, and Windy came over for a late lunch on the 9th which kicked off a three day dining extravaganza.
February 4
Breakfast with Kathleen. I’m finally happy with the frittata: 1)ingredients 2)1 cup grated cheese 3)4 eggs; edges cooked, 10 minutes at 350.
Sharon and I walked at the beach and it looked like this for the first hour!
(internet pic)
February 5
We had three birthdays at Becky’s. She made that magnificent cake, everyone brought a feast and then…
February 3
Bonnie came over for a stroll around her old neighborhhod which happens to be a few blocks from my current neighborhood. The lake and river at the park is a lot bigger than it was when they were here…and there are Too Many Ducks.
They poop up the place, but they are also adorable and the kids love feeding them.
Then I went out to play with the girls while Darryl and Angela had a date night.
We did a very fun little photo shoot at the beach and then had dinner there, and dessert, of course.
Lilly in heart glasses.
February 1-2
I’ve spent a lot of the last several days with my older sister Lona because of an unexpected hospital stay for her husband Hartley. Hartley’s condition seems back to normal with his infection under control so they’re going home tomorrow. Now everyone needs to SLEEP.

Below are some pictures I’ve been collecting.
Windy’s younger son’s son, Jack, lives in Texas and the school was holding a contest for pictures for the State Fair and Rodeo. Jack made it to the finals but I don’t know what happened after that.
It’s so good! Look at the stomping hoof and the flying fence and those wonderful clouds of dust. Good job Jack!

There’s little Kai with Lofty Dogs off to collect more dogs and then enjoy a walk in the park.
(lofty dogs)
Windy’s older son’s daughter and son, Anya and Xander, dressed up for a ’50’s party. Xander is with a friend I don’t know, and how is it, just yesterday they were adorable little kids.
l-bk.
I bought a groupon based on Windy’s recommendation for a full body stretch, where a professional therapist twists you up like a pretzel. It felt great.
She told me I stand wrong. And then she told me I walk wrong. All in the sweetest possible way. What she said actually feels right and I’m going to try to take her advice.
Then I came home and started work on What’s Next. I bought a plane ticket to Mexico City leaving February 17 and coming home March 10. It’s a one hour or so bus ride from Mexico City airport to the colonial town of Puebla where I’m going to attend a Spanish Language school for three weeks.

My goal before I leave is to at least know where things are Supposed to go in my garage even if everything is not yet in its spot. We’ll see.
I’m giving away about a ton of Lonely Planets. If anyone will take them.
January 29
We, Sharon and I, walked around Tongva Park this morning, enjoyed some food, then went our separate ways.
There’s a big construction project next door to City Hall for some additional administration space but the original building stays exactly as it is – very cool tile work, fountains, murals. I like it!
January 28
I have no idea how this picture went so wrong. I am a pathetic selfie maker.
Dinner with Windy and Jeff, Yay!
January 24
Happy Birthday Angela! Here’s a huge box of Vegan Donuts for ALL! Liz, Gary, and Dev were there too but I failed to get a picture with everyone together.
I just put this in a week late deciding oh who cares, we’re cute anyway.
me, Burt, Charlene
January 25-27
Getting ready to make this happen: acquiring so many things, Cecelia and Alex pitched in, shopping and cooking and then…
…my Valley Girls are all in my little house for Ladies Lunch!
Marija, Ljubica, Becky, me, Alicia, Maxine, Lourdes, Marsha, Ann, Maryanne.
Maryanne’s helper took the picture.
The fishermen on the pier were flipping the pelicans small fish and before you know it there was a flock gathered. We could easily have touched them, but ooow they are Big.
January 23
Sharon and I had an early morning walk today, and we both thought this looked like a palm tree from the movies.
Rome and I had a stroll around the Redondo Beach Pier while Lilly was in dance class.
We liked this guy because we couldn’t see his other leg and because he matched the old sign where he was perched.
January 22
I went out to Simi to have lunch with Burt and Charlene and we stopped off at a Simi Valley landmark, Grandma Prisbrey’s Bottle Village.
“In 1956, Tressa Prisbrey, then 60 years old, started building a “village” of shrines, walkways, sculptures, and buildings from recycled items and discards from the local landfill. She worked for 25 years creating one structure after another to house her collections.
“.. It was officially closed in 1984 and severely damaged during the 1994 Northridge earthquake. .. In 1996, two years after the Northridge earthquake and still in ruin, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.”
January 20-21
Lucas has been in town from Seattle for a business meeting and we’ve all had a great chance for a visit. Thanks for making the time Lucas!
