This is the first of inevitably more bad news days. As long as I survive there will be bad news days and my plan is to just plow ahead with the next thing.
My doctor is always quick to point out all the ways it could be worse, and you know me, that’s my default response to bad news. It could be worse! I am still well, there are still more treatment options, and there is still no survival prognosis the doctor will tell me. All the doctors say the same thing; nobody knows survival until you’re out of options.
According to the doctor I am well placed to respond favorably to the new regime. Unfortunately, the new regime is a big fat pain in my butt (literally) requiring almost weekly visits to the clinic for the butt-shot and a recently FDA approved IV injection. I’ll get a port installed for the IV, the port being much more comfortable than stabbing away at my tender veins every week. I could decline the IV injection and use an older therapy but it’s less effective, so we’ll try this first.
As well as bad news days, I’m also prepared for waiting days, waiting for the next test to see if what I’m doing is working, waiting to see how I feel. Thankfully, I feel good now and I’m almost finished sorting through old albums and shopping bags of snapshots previously piled in the garage. Maybe another ten hours and TICK, done, an accomplishment!
