Payton, Charis, and William are out here in LA staying with Lona for a few days before they all head up to Sacramento for the wedding next weekend. I got to play with a friendly huggy kissy go-go Baaayby, how fun is that?!
Then Lona had a doctor’s appointment so she and Payton parked at my house. And since they were at my house Charis and William came by too and we walked over to Tartine to enjoy lunch. YUM.
I had plans for an early dinner with Jo Ann and Alan at Noma. YUM,
Walking home from Noma I passed the massage place a block from my house and they were still open so I stopped in for a welcome relaxing hour.
This is the first of inevitably more bad news days. As long as I survive there will be bad news days and my plan is to just plow ahead with the next thing.
My doctor is always quick to point out all the ways it could be worse, and you know me, that’s my default response to bad news. It could be worse! I am still well, there are still more treatment options, and there is still no survival prognosis the doctor will tell me. All the doctors say the same thing; nobody knows survival until you’re out of options.
According to the doctor I am well placed to respond favorably to the new regime. Unfortunately, the new regime is a big fat pain in my butt (literally) requiring almost weekly visits to the clinic for the butt-shot and a recently FDA approved IV injection. I’ll get a port installed for the IV, the port being much more comfortable than stabbing away at my tender veins every week. I could decline the IV injection and use an older therapy but it’s less effective, so we’ll try this first.
As well as bad news days, I’m also prepared for waiting days, waiting for the next test to see if what I’m doing is working, waiting to see how I feel. Thankfully, I feel good now and I’m almost finished sorting through old albums and shopping bags of snapshots previously piled in the garage. Maybe another ten hours and TICK, done, an accomplishment!
Let’s hear it for Willis Haviland Carrier, inventor of the first modern electric air-conditioner and a personal hero of mine! It’s going to be h.o.t with So Much humidity .. but I’m good!!
When Michi was here she gave me many sweet gifts including this cat t-shirt. I’m tempted to make it into a pillow since then I’d get to look at it every day. I don’t know if this is the best place for it, it’s on the couch now, we’ll see. There’s a tailor down the block and she’s got my outfit for Christa’s wedding. Fingers crossed I can say “I’ve got a tailor now” who could stitch up a pillow no problem.
I’ve got to get the gardener to do something about my neighbor’s banana plants pushing under the fence.
I’ve been trying to get an exterminator to rid Olivia of the flying ant infestation.
The always welcome stroll around the park and stop-off at the market = 4,000 steps.
Back in rhythm starting today, is The Plan. I’ve been to PT, doctor’s appointments, lunches etc etc. I even saw The Odyssey. Who knows what all I’ve forgotten because – No Pictures! Here are a few over the last 3+ weeks. It seems I have more than I thought I did.
Happy Birthday Becky!
Alicia, Maxine, Ljubica, Ann, Becky, Marija, Marsha (thank you Alicia for hosting!)
Lunch with Merlyn at Dulan’s on Crenshaw.
The control panel for my new AIR CONDITIONER but it’s not marked.
Happy Birthday Windy!
Jo Ann and Alan have a connection to this group who hold concerts in this home. There were 10 or so people behind me. And a trio of women singers who were a delight.
Joanne and Paul hosted a get-together that was lovely, with a lavish Ethiopian buffet enjoyed by all.
I liked it.
Michi passing through on her way to Santa Barbara.
The view out my PT’s window. I’m expecting those construction cranes to be multiplying like insects with all the empty lots waiting.
I’m such a sucker for a cat.
Michi back from Santa Barbara and on her way home.
I’ve been back for 2+ weeks, with many many rest days and many busy days too. It took quite a while to catch up on the trip pictures, I think I’d been pictured-out, but I do have a few since I’ve been home, and I will put them together tomorrow.
And OMG when I got back we had a long week of record-breaking heat, so very hot, I could feel my blood (literally!) boiling. What you see here is the hole in my ceiling that is now AIR CONDITIONING, oh joy oh joy. It’s a cassette style mini-split and I’ve been running it 24/7 since it got installed 2 days ago, so I can feel Cold, ahhhh.
